Champagne Jeeper on the rise. New scores by James Suckling

We recently attended Tyson Stelzer's Taste Champagne events in Brisbane, Sydney, Canberra, Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. We were happily blown away by the reaction to our Champagnes.

There was a genuine  buzz about Champagne Jeeper, a house which has substantially  lifted the quality of its production in the last decade. It was nominated by many attendees as the standout of the show.  It's cuvées are predominantly Chardonnay, aged for 2 years in old oak (third only to Krug and Bollinger in oak barrel stocks), with 5 years minimum ageing on lees, sustainable production and vegan friendly.

Chief winemaker Marie-Luce Thierry, at the age of 30, for 2 consecutive years has been a finalist in the International Sparkling Winemaker of the Year awards.

Jeeper Grande Rosé NV was recently listed exclusively in Britsh Airways First and Business lounges. It's Champagne you deserve!

International expert James Suckling recently published his review of 300 current release Champagnes. All of the Champagne Jeeper range made it to the top 300.

He gave new reviews to our 3 cuvées of Champagne Jeeper available online.

In Global Celebration of Chardonnay

Poet Elizabeth Barrett Browning could have been writing about Chardonnay when she penned her famous Sonnet 43: “How do I love thee? Let me count the ways. I love thee to the depth and breadth and height.”

On 26 May the whole world will be celebrating that “depth and breadth and height” - because it will be International Chardonnay Day.

And what’s not to celebrate! Chardonnay is the second most planted white wine grape in the world and the fifth most planted grape overall. It is a chameleon among wines. It comes in many flavours and styles and matches so many types of food.

Party on!

Chardonnay’s endless potential and depth of character has seen it described as “a red wine masquerading as a white.” From the classic, full bodied, oak-aged Chardonnays to the lean, minerality of young, un-oaked styles, to the light and zesty blanc de blancs Champagnes, Chardonnay earns it name as the “king of grapes”.

And if that isn’t enough to inspire the gathering of friends to celebrate the joys of Chardonnay on 26 May then consider this. On the flavour and aroma wheel of wine descriptors, its characteristics virtually populate the whole compass. Chardonnay can exhibit fruit flavours such as lemon, apple, pear, pineapple, passionfruit, peach, citrus/lemon zest and fig.  Or floral attributes like honeysuckle, lemon balm, jasmine or apple blossom. It can even be tinged with almond, butterscotch, creamy, oily and waxy notes. And oak-aged Chardonnays can delivery further nuances of vanilla, butter, coconut, baked pie crust, caramelised sugar, crème brûlée and praline

As a French wine importer, DiscoverVin has recently added wines from Burgundy and Champagne to its list of exceptional, independent producers from Bordeaux and South West France.

On International Chardonnay Day it will be party time from the birthplace of Chardonnay in Burgundy, France - to the new world Chardonnays of Australia, New Zealand and the Americas – and everyone is invited.

To celebrate, DiscoverVin is singling out its new Chardonnays from Lupé-Cholet in Burgundy – and the mouth filling Jeeper Grande Reserve blanc de blancs Champagne to be the life of the party.

"OMG, this wine is sublime!"

The team at DiscoverVin was thrilled to see this great review of our Champagne Jeeper Grand Assemblage NV from Dan Traucki at Wine Assist.

Since its recent launch in Australia 2 months ago, it has been getting a great reaction including 4 stars in Winestate magazine and a huge recommendation from the Wine Wankers

Here is Dan Traucki's review reproduced below (with thanks!)

THIS WEEK’S WINE REVIEW:
CHAMPAGNE JEEPER GRAND ASSEMBLAGE BRUT: Interestingly, Champagne Jeeper is actually named after the WILLY’S JEEP that the American soldiers gave French resistance fighter Arnoud Goutorbe, who had lost a leg during the war.
Goutorbe’s family had been growing grapes in the area for generations, and so the gift of the Jeep meant that he could still tend to his vineyards.
Years later when the family launched its own brand, rather than supplying the grapes to one of the big houses, it seemed natural to name the wine after the thing that made it possible – the Jeep, hence Champagne Jeeper.

Oh! Wow! This is an amazing champagne right up there with the best!

http://www.wineassist.com.au/Article%20Display%20Images/TWWR_ChampagneJeeper_GA.jpg
At the risk of blurting out too many superlatives, it is classy, elegant, creamy, delectable, sophisticated, magnificent and utterly delicious!
It has a beautiful bead, gorgeous light-yellow colour, a rich, creamy bouquet complete with hints of apples and yeast autolysis.
Absolute bags of flavour – again, rich and creamy mouthful of divine flavours and very classy, restrained acidity so that the palate screams out for more as the lingering finish gently fades away.
I don’t use the 100 point scoring scale (10 points in reality) but if I did, this nectar would be in the mid-90s at least! OMG, this wine is sublime!!!
It is one of the three Champagnes in the range that have only just come into the country thanks to Discovervin.
Check them out at http://www.discovervin.com.au and enjoy an amazing experience.

Champagne Dinner at Brisbane's Montrachet

It will soon be Brisbane's turn to taste Champagne Jeeper for the first time. We are pleased to announce an exclusive Champagne Dinner at Montrachet restaurant in Brisbane, November 9th.

60 years ago, American GIs gave an injured French patriot a Jeep to enable him to tend his Champagne vineyards. The neighbours dubbed it Jeeper Champagne.

Nowadays the house of Jeeper has gained an international reputation for producing fine Champagnes. With its stand-out bottle-shape (designed to reduce oxidation) and its distinct taste, it stands out from the field.

This is what wine critic James Suckling thinks of the Champagne Jeeper Grande Réserve which is one of the cuvées that will be served at this event.

"This is very dry and bright with sliced lemon, white pepper and bread dough. Full body, creamy texture and a long finish. Delicious brut. Pure chardonnay, blanc de blancs. Get it. Drink now. 94 points"

Bottle shot Champagne Jeeper

What is the "Jeeper Taste"?  It is the production of finely balanced wines, dominated by Chardonnay, with great persistence and no harshness, bitterness or astringency.
Champagne Jeeper is now available in Australia for the first time.

It's your chance to try for yourself this new brand of Champagne matched to the outstanding cuisine of Shannon Kellam at Montrachet. We have booked out the second sitting of this restaurant for this dinner. We will be joined by Champagne Jeeper CEO Nicholas Dubois and Export Director Samuel Ferjou who will be in Brisbane especially for this event.
